We’re getting well and truly in the festive spirit here at The Luxury Editor, having just got back from Amsterdam which was looking magical after a blanketing of snow!
The Dutch capital of style and luxury is a real favourite of ours, and we were in the city to get a flavour of what’s new for discerning travellers.

Amsterdam Light Festival
December is especially magical in Amsterdam as the city prepares for the Christmas. The city hosts its annual Amsterdam Light Festival – an extraordinary showcase of contemporary creativity displayed along the city’s canals. Many of the installations are best seen from the water so take the opportunity to join a boat trip in the evening.
One of the most spectacular is the ‘Whole Hole’ (by Paul Vendel and Sandra de Wolf); which is installed under one of Amsterdam’s canal bridges – passing under the bridge in a boat feels otherworldly!
There are special walking and biking tours as well as photography tours.

Luxury Hotels
The city’s portfolio of luxury hotels continues to go from strength to strength.
The Hotel Pulitzer is looking especially grand following is major remodelling and restoration. The news themed suites are amazing, including the ‘Book Collector’s Suite’; and the ‘Pulitzer Suite’ both pictured below. Look out for news on this from us next year.
The Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam remains one of our favourite hotels in the city and this month the property is looking fantastic with glorious festive decorations. We sampled one of the hotels festive menus – not to be missed.
The Conservatorium is a very special hotel – and at this time of year the large open lobby bar restaurant come to life with festive decorations and holiday events.
Sofitel Legend The Grand remains one of the city’s iconic properties and for a truly exceptional dining experience visit Bridges Restaurant, a Michelin star fish restaurant.
Culture
This is also a wonderful time to visit the city’s cultural attractions. The Van Gogh Museum and the Rijks Museum are of course world-class, and both offer considerably enhanced visitor experiences following major investments.
