There are three things I like… or rather l love; travelling, sleeping and my hometown of Glasgow. Now for me travelling and sleeping don’t really work too well together – I’m tall, I end up uncomfortable no matter the mode of transport and I can’t get my head into a good dozing position, it just ends up being sore.
So when I heard about the Trtl scarf (pronounced Turtle) and meaning “travel refreshed, travel light” I thought I really want to try it out.
The Trtl is a lightweight travel sleeping gadget that comes from Glasgow and was created by Michael Corrigan & David Kellock who are winners of Best Digital Head for Bank of Scotland Awards 2014.
How Does It Work?
The Trtl is a hybrid between a scarf and neck support, it is super-light weight at only 139 grams (this is the weight of a muffin according to Trtl!) and unlike a traditional travel neck-support that you have to blow up, this is all ready to go whenever you want and its size means it can be packed with minimal loss of luggage space (you can even just tie it around bag to carry about with you).
To operate the Trtl all you need to do is unwrap the fabric, which is the same as a scarf, position the bendable arch support against your neck (which fits any neck shape) then wrap the scarf around your neck and close with the velcro.
And it really is as simple as that.
What Did We Think?
Ok so I test drove it at the weekend and I am sold on it! I did actually manage to doze off when I was wearing it and for me the two winning points were feeling cozy and having some dignity…. What I mean by that is sleep is a private experience most of the time, so having people watching you sleeping is an uncomfortable feeling (it is for me anyway!) but since the Trtl is a scarf you can pull it up around your face so i) you can stop people seeing you sleeping with your mouth open and ii) it feels nice and cozy, like a duvet around your neck which is good for me as I sleep with the duvet over my head at night (I know, I’m weird!)
The other good thing is that the Trtl is also washable so you don’t need to worry about dragging about a smelly beaten up neck pillow after while – just can pop it into the wash when you get home.
