Sometimes in life there are places that have such an effect on you they help mould you into the person you end up becoming. One of those places for me is Carradale in the Mull of Kintrye. Most people will probably never have heard of Carradale or even Kintyre.
Kintyre is found on the west side of Scotland, running parallel to Glasgow with Arran to its right hand side and Islay to the left.
It’s a very special place for me, I used to visit it nearly every weekend when I was growing up, my gran and grandpa retired there when I was very young and it became my home from home where I turned from a boy into a teenager then an adult.
I hadn’t visited for about 8 years but this weekend I returned to see what it was like now and thankfully nothing has changed, it’s still as stunning as I remembered it to be.

If you want to visit Carradale you need to drive from Glasgow, up past Loch Lomond and through Inverary onward to Campbeltown and then onto Carradale.

The journey takes about four hours and is truly spectacular; it takes you through glens and past lochs, up over mountains so high your ears pop and along roads running parallel to beaches with seals basking on them. It’s magical, beautiful and remains fairly untouched from the world around it which is part of its beauty that I love.
