About ten years ago on a trip to Toronto I was asked by a friend to try one of Canada’s most famous whisky’s, Crown Royal. Created as a gift for the King and Queen of England to celebrate their visit to Canada in 1939 it has been a hit in North America ever since.
I instantly fell in love with its very distinct rich and strong flavour, which has just a hint of vanilla, caramel and a slight sherry sweetness running through it. Crown Royal is a medium bodied whisky which means that it does not have that burning effect you sometimes get with whisky, it is completely smooth, without compromising on taste. It works well on its own, but I love it with lemonade… naughty I know!
One of the nicest features of the packaging is that Crown Royal comes in a velvet purple pouch, which has now almost become as iconic as the drink inside the bottle.
