Tucked away at the bottom of Soi 33 and then on a little bit more is Peppina, one of Bangkok’s best pizza restaurants and a relatively new kid on the Bangkok food scene. Founded by Chef Paolo Vitaletti from Appia restaurant (also in Phrom Phong), brought a Neopolitan baker from Italy as well as a massive pizza oven to make what is a fantastically tasty pizza dough and TLE went to check it out!
The Concept
Like other restaurants in Phrom Phong Peppina oozes cool. A converted warehouse with open plan kitchen down one side and tables on the other this would not look out of place in Manhattan. Seating around 80 covers with a mix of big tables for 10 and small for 2/3, it is jam packed at weekends so make sure you book in advance or you will be disappointed.
The Menu
The menu is large and all Italian focused with around 21 different pizza’s to choose from as well as a range of starters, a deli section and larger meat mains – in addition a daily specials, which is almost a full menu in itself, I don’t know where they keep the ingredient on site.

We started with a selection of Bruschette – Zucchini, olive tapenade and parmigiano reggiano (160 Baht) and Grilled Eggplant and Anchovies, minus the anchovies for me (180 Baht) The were both delicious, so flavoursome. I was swaying towards liking the Zucchini one more thought!

For mains we went for pizza, I love pizza, one of my sins. They come in two sizes, medium which is great for one and regular which is ideal for sharing. We had a medium courgette pizza from the specials menu and I went for a regular Quattro Formaggi (390 Baht). I was hesitant as the 4 cheese came with apple and walnuts on top with a balsamic glaze, which felt like too much going on, but actually all the flavours complimented each other very well.

If pizza is not your poison they have a range of mean mains including pork liver (350 Baht), lamb chop (700 Baht) and spicy baby chicken (420 Baht) to pull out a few.

Pizza’s come with a cute cruet set of chili flakes, chili oil, salt and oregano.
My Thoughts
I loved the atmosphere, and décor. The food was simply delicious and the wine was superb.
However I guess with every new restaurant, bums on seats is the key to business, and this means turning tables quickly. Staff we very helpful – but almost too helpful, the minute you put something down it was taken away, leaving you feeling like you were being papped out of the door to make way for the next customer. Also I am not a fan of restaurants that make you use your starter cutlery for main, come on how difficult is it to give you a new set, which I hope are just teething problems.
However putting this aside Peppina still makes it onto the TLE list of restaurants to visit as everything else was first class.
